She clarified that these strategies go beyond just a routine reporting exercise, and are considered in conjunction with the operational and financial metrics to help founders fine-tune their strategy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Good &amp; Well considers these strategies comparable to tech roadmaps and marketing KPIs \u2013 if there\u2019s an intention to drive social change, it\u2019s crucial to have a clear plan of action.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">\u201cThere is a very popular phrase that says that you can\u2019t manage what you can\u2019t measure, and that\u2019s why one of the first things we do when we invest in a company is to create that blueprint, the theory of change, and then later define output and outcome metrics to help us identify if we\u2019re on track or need to change our approach,\u201d Olga explains.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-36b0c5f elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"36b0c5f\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-5992bd4\" data-id=\"5992bd4\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5d6f015 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5d6f015\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Theory of Change\u00a0<\/span><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">A theory of change is a visual strategy document that explains how the activities undertaken by a company contribute to a chain of results that lead to achieving the ultimate impact goal of the company.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Olga recommends starting with that identified ultimate impact goal, then thinking about the activities of the company, and mapping backwards the necessary pre-conditions and how these are linked to the activities to realize those goals.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-f092ecd elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"f092ecd\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-2fc7cd9\" data-id=\"2fc7cd9\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fa7a313 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fa7a313\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 Impact Measurement Framework\u00a0<\/span><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">An Impact Measurement and Management Framework (IMM), is based on the theory of change and it helps startups better understand their positive and negative impact. Some of the elements that are defined in this framework are:\u00a0<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 300;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">the metrics or targets that tell you whether you are on your way to meeting your ultimate impact goal<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 300;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">the data you are going to collect and how you are going to collect it<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 300;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">why you are going to collect it (what is it going to help you learn, prove, and\/or improve)\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 300;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">how often you are going to collect it<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-da8e772 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"da8e772\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-dcb6bc5\" data-id=\"dcb6bc5\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a0ac2f9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a0ac2f9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Tips for Early-Stage Companies to Define Their Impact\u00a0<\/span><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">For early-stage startups with constrained resources, developing an IMM may seem daunting, or even unnecessary. However, it\u2019s important to note that the framework can be adapted based on your current capabilities and stage \u2013 it can evolve as your business evolves. Olga recommends, at minimum, having a Theory of Change.
